Who’s this?

Do you think being called a nerd is an insult?

Growing up, I was the kid always sketching in the margins of my notes. Finish a drawing, grin, and then erase it to start another. Whether it was drawing, playing music, or watching anime, they never stayed as a hobby. They were my obsession. And what does one do when they are obsessed with something? Yes, that’s right, you nerd out. “Is that the default cyan in Adobe?” “That ad had six different fonts.” “Did they seriously use a PNG with the background?” (Sorry to my friends who had to listen.)

Being an advertising student is the best of both worlds: getting to be creative while being a nerd. What started as doodles has evolved into a part-time role as a graphic designer and a daily pursuit of building creative concepts.

So, to answer the question, is being called a nerd an insult? Not to me, because when I’m called a “nerd,” I hear, “she’s passionate.”
